For the past couple of years, friends and family have frequently asked Bill Patterson when he planned to retire after spending 34 years with the same company and 48 years in the industry. In response, he would often joke, saying, “I don’t need new tires – but when I do, I’ll let you know I’ve re-tired.”
Over the past two years, Bill has prayed about his future. He knew he didn’t want to simply retire from something; instead, he sought God’s guidance on what he should retire to. Although he loved his current job, he felt a stirring to seek the next step. He sensed a calling to a new season of service but was unsure of what it would entail. However, God had a plan.
In November, during a dinner conversation, Pastor Jerry mentioned that he had something to ask and assured Bill that he was serious. He then inquired whether Bill would be interested in joining the staff at FiveStone as the part-time Pastor of Outreach & Missions. Bill was both excited and surprised, as he had never considered this as a possibility for his future.
From the very beginning, God’s hand was evident in this journey. Having been involved in outreach and missions for the past 18 years, Bill is now overjoyed to serve in this new role, fulfilling his calling in ministry.
